Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills, from a mixture of martial arts and non-martial arts traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of both striking as well as grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists of different backgrounds to compete. (Wikipedia, 2010).

Due to the massive increase in popularity there are now more competitors and martial arts being adapted into the sport. The MMA fighter has evolved into the "complete" fighter, and anyone wanting to enter the sport must know ALL aspects of striking, clinching, grappling, submission, conditioning and more in order to be competitive.

Strikeforce MMA is proud to house probably the most successful MMA fighters and fight records in New Zealand to date. Under the patriarchal leadership of NZ MMA Legend Karl Webber, Strikeforce is home to NZ, Australasian and South Pacific Championship title holders.

How do I start MMA at Strikeforce?
MMA is a multi-disciplined sport which the strikeforce coaches (who are fighters themselves) understand very well. Due to this, it is highly recommended to start by going to the BJJ and Kickboxing classes first. If you want to start straight into MMA all you need is a mouthguard, shorts and t-shirt -- Auckland Classes are Weds 8pm and Sunday 11am.
Check out the class timetable and contact STRIKEFORCE GYM for more information!
